Panama is the Central America 's jewel. It`s more than just a canal...much more. It's one of the best places to experience the tropics. It's also mostly coastline, great surfing, beaches and an awesome climate built for the tourists. It`s the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean, the mountains, the girls, the jungle, the fishing, the hundreds of islands and beaches, the rythm or even the Panama canal.
Panama jungles are home to playful monkeys, crocodiles, countless lizards, red- frogs and a mind-boggling assortment of exotic birds, insects and butterflies, sea turtles and jungle cats.
The visitors can surf oversized waves, dive with dolphins and whales or they can just chill out in a hammock, sun bath on the beach and enjoy the pure life.
The surf in Panama is a year-round experience, with the most consistent conditions occurring on the Pacific coast between March through November, and on the Atlantic Coast from November through April.
Bocas del Toro, recognized as Panama`s Caribbean jewel. The bocas region boasts clean, calm waters, caribbean feeling and rain forests. The Bastimentos National Marine Park, is one of the most beautiful and important marine habitats that exist today. Bocas del Toro has several amazing beaches. The Bluff and Boca del Drago Beach on the island Colon. The Red-Frog Beach on Bastimentos. You can watch dolphins on the Dolphin Bay and visit the Zapatilla Cays.
The beautiful San Blas islands stretch along 200 miles of Panama`s Caribbean costline. The islands are totally free from animals or snakes and have a perfect, breeze-cooled tropical climate.
The amazing Taboga is the island of flowers. Hibiscus, Oleander, Ylang Ylang, Bougainvillaea and Jasmine. Taboga is where pirates laid the groundwork for Hollywood movies.
Perl Islands are mostly uninhabited except for some fishing communities and only a few islands have tourist development. The president of Panama, Ricardo Matinelli lives actually on one of those islands

We went to the bus stop in Puerto Viejo in the morning, to get a ride to Sixaola. This is where you cross the border to Panama.
After we got there we had to do all the border-bureaucracy. We didn't have to pay much to our surprise, bit they our luggage and they needed something which proofes that we are going to leave the country. We showed them our air ticket to Colombia and that was acceptable. After this we found the bus to Almirante, from there went taxi boats to Bocas del Toro.
Bocas del Toro, Isla Colon is one island of a group of islands. Each of these islands offers different amazing things like a beach with lots of starfish, red frogs, sandflies, etc. Bocas del Toro is holiday home for Americans and Germans of all ages, that is why the prices are quite high and everybody speaks English.
We joined an all-included-tour which was dolphin-watching, snorkeling and visiting a beautiful sand beach. We saw some dolphins on this tour and snorkeling on that reef was just fantastic.
After 5 days on that island we left and headed for David.
The first hostel I saw in David looked pretty strange, because everything looked like it was left behind 20 years ago, even the dog which was looking at me reacted really slowly.
Unfortunately the hotels were the opposite modern and clean and they were way too expensive for us.
Finally we decided to stay in a hostel called "Purple House", which was located outside David. It was pretty nice there but because of the prices we had to sleep in a dorm, which I don't like.
The owner was a great person. She was able to give us lots of informations about the surroundings. Among other things she advised a visit to the hot springs, which we visited. To our surprise, they were really hot.
For the next day we planned a trip in the jungle to a farm, where monkeys and other animals get pepped up.
The visit of this farm (Alouattalodge) in the jungle was one of the best things we did. We got picked up right in front of our hostel by Michelle at seven in the morning, she was from New Zealand. She brought us to an amazing paradise in the jungle. The garden looked like a zoo it was 15 hectares. The view was just amazing. On one side we saw mountains and on the other the pacific ocean. The highlight was the 8 howler monkeys. We spent the whole day with the monkeys. On top of it all we had the best lunch ever.
On the next day we headed for the capital.
La Ciudad de Panama is not comparable with other cities in Central America. On one side you see the quonsets and on the other you are surprised by one skyscraper higher than the other. A city with contrasts, which you can see in the inhabitants as well.
We headed for the expensive part of the city "Coco del Mar", because I had written emails to hostels in Panama City asking for work and I got a positive answer from Hostel Panama.
Unfortunately no taxi driver wanted to take us. We had to take the bus but we had no idea where to get off the bus.
Finally we rode the bus a little too long and we had to go back to the hostel by taxi. Luis received us in a really friendly way. We made a deal with him - 5 hours work a day and we stayed for free and some other stuff like free coffee, free laundry - After all it was an hourly rate of 2 Dollars, we have had worse jobs in our Live before.
I was mainly behind the counter at the reception. One of my first jobs was to show the place to a couple from the States. They were almost 70 years old. I showed them everything without having any idea what I was talking about. I just hoped they did not ask many questions and they didn't. They checked in and everything worked out well.
My friend Simone had worked in a cleaning-business and she made a great job with the windows and the chairs.
On one occasion we returned to the hostel at 0500am totally drunk, we had to cross an area called Chorillo to get back home. This is the city's most dangerous part.
We spent a day in Central America's largest mall (Albrook Mall).
I bought a new skateboard and
some skate-shoes and Simone got some clothes.
For the last two days we moved into a cheap hotel in Casco Viejo, which is in Panama City's oldest part and finally we saw the Panama Canal, before we went home.
